TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to the [community profile] outsiders test drive meme! You can use this post to tag with characters you're interested in bringing to the game or who you'd like to try out in the setting.

Please set all threads in one of three areas: the landing zone, where your character get off the shuttle upon arrival; the markets, where your character might run into any of the station's alien population; or in the residential district they'll be staying in.

φ Please give the name and canon of your character in the subject line! OCs (including Mass Effect OCs) and AUs are welcome.
φ You may use threads from this post as a log sample, so long as it has at least 5 of your comments in action tags or prose.
φ If you app in later, you can keep CR from this meme if both players agree to it OOCly, and so long as you keep interactions to these starting areas.
φ Apps and reserves and are always open! Our next processing round runs from 4/20 through 4/26.
φ You can find more information on our setting here, and our navigation is here!

[ Pizzas are pretty alien as far as Omega is concerned, but for this all-star American kid, they're a cozy taste of home in an otherwise extremely shitty place. Unfortunately for Marco, he's charged with spending all day carrying them around and drooling at how delicious they smell, but only gets a chance to dig in to one when he's almost too exhausted to enjoy it.

It's ironic that he picked up a certain other job in order to not have to do this job as much, but the certain other job actually required that he continue performing this one to the best of his ability, so here he is, still busting ass as Marco the Pizza Boy. ]

Watch it, dude, coming through!

[ He's pushing through the marketplace as a brisk trot (which, given the length of his legs, is a casual stroll for most full grown adults), and shoves past Eames, turning to keep the big insulated bag slung over his shoulder from getting squished. ]

[ Given that Eames is the one standing still- trying to slip his fingers into another gentleman's loose back pocket, but that's neither here nor there- and this long haired boy is the one to bump into him, there is very little watching Eames can do to prevent their collision. However, thanks to said kid, the man with the loose back pocket is now alerted to Eames' presence, and Eames has to move on.

Annoyed by the loss of opportunity, Eames figures the only fair way to mediate is to turn his attention on the one who jostled him. ( Never let it be said Eames is outgrew the schoolyard. )

Although, there's something familiar about the boy from behind- something in the way the boys ears jut out, not yet quite grown into... It takes a moment of following in the wake of the boy and his pizza box before he looks over his shoulder and it clicks in Eames' head.
]

Oi, [ Reaching for the strap of your pizza bag, Marco! ] A moment of your time, lad.
tradecraftdude: 06 (are you insane)

ahahaha how did i forget about facetwinning arthur

[ If Eames has some residual schoolyard grudges to work out, picking on a middle schooler a quarter of his size is certainly one way to do it.

Marco feels the tug on his strap and his hand immediately goes into the front of his jacket; maybe not every delivery boy packs heat, but really jumpy ones who are sure that there's someone actively trying to kill them at any given moment do. He doesn't draw right away, though---he's been taught better than that---and wheels around to meet his heckler.

His expression drops from spooked rabbit to petulant teenager the moment he sees that it's that slightly out-of-place dude he bumped into earlier, with a very Earth-based accent (one he's heard almost exclusively in spy thrillers and war movies), and he yanks back on the bag over his shoulder. ]

Oi yourself, Tommy! Pizza shop is three blocks back, on the right. Follow your nose and get your own pie, I've gotta take this one clear across the district!

[ That hand doesn't leave its cozy spot covering the pistol tucked into the front of his jacket, though. ]
paisleythief: (.teaching myself to fall out of love)

idk but it makes eames uncomf ( which makes me lauuuugh )

[personal profile] paisleythief 2013-04-19 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, this is a situation Eames hasn't found himself in, in quite some time.

In Eames' line of work, that movement means one thing: back off or be prepared. Eames is definietly unprepared, more importantly unarmed; not that he's at all certain what he'd do to this kid if he were carrying the familiar weight of a handgun at his side. He just seems jumpy, reluctant to be stopped by a stranger, and Eames can respect that, more so when the kid's not doing very much to hide that he's packing heat. ( That or he just doesn't care who knows, which realistically, could be much worse. )

So Eames does what any rational man would; he pulls a credits card out of his jacket sleeve and holds it out to the boy.
]

Is information dependent on pizza purchase, or would all the credits on this card suffice to save me from unnecessary indigestion? [ Eames is flying blind here, not sure exactly how currency works or if he's phrasing things correctly, but he can see from the way the boy looks at the card that he's caught his attention. Eames turns the card over, so the boy can see that its real- even if it isn't really his. ] We can walk and talk, if your delivery is time sensitive.
tradecraftdude: 03 (this is my skeptic face)

it's unbearable when marco and arthur are both in a thraed

[personal profile] tradecraftdude 2013-04-20 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Welcome to Omega, chap, where you stick out if you're not openly armed. While Marco generally prefers an approach with slightly more subtley, there are times when he just wants to bare some teeth and run someone off. Especially when he's grouchy and in a rush.

He eyes this guy, tense for a moment as some quick hand movements happen, but barely contains rolling his eyes as he's offered money, of all things. ]

If I didn't know any better, I'd think this is the world's stupidest reverse mugging, dude. You grab me and then try to give me credits?

[ Still, after a quick sweep of the area around them to make sure this tourist was alone, Marco takes his hand out of his jacket and pinches at the air in the universal gesture of 'put your money here, buddy'. He'll take your stolen card, Eames, because he's not going to turn down free credits. ]

But seriously, I don't care if you want pizza or not. You want a tour guide or whatever? Fine. Walk with me. Talk with me.
paisleythief: (Default)

i wonder if marco's hair makes arthur's skin crawl with second hand embarrassment

[personal profile] paisleythief 2013-04-20 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, if you thought that was quick, stay tuned for the encore- you know the one, where Eames steals your wallet for putting up with his presence? Eames finds it to be a great crowd pleaser.

But that's for later.
]

Good choice. [ For now, Eames will hand over the card, slotting it into the long haired boy's pincer-like fingers, and follow him when he takes off again. Even at the boy's brisk pizza-toting pace, Eames doesn't have to speed his lazy stroll up to keep in step with the boy. ( He's subtle about his glances at the boy- weighing the similarities that jump out at him against the obvious differences. Its unnerving, and Eames doesn't appreciate having to take into account the very real possibility that Arthur may have been this age once.

Its much simpler to think of Arthur as having always been his fully formed, anal-retentive, man-child self; not someone who grew up into the loyal asshole Eames knows. )
]

Fill me in on the basics, the where and the why, if you can. I'll interject as I see fit.
tradecraftdude: 02 (pubescent disbelief)

someday, marco will get unsolicited grooming advice from arthur

[personal profile] tradecraftdude 2013-04-20 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ And then the card disappears into the inside of Marco's jacket, not too far away from his pistol. Marco doesn't keep anything important or valuable in any outside pockets, dude. ]

Thank you for flying Marco Air. We begin our ascent to the twelfth level of Zeta District's residential zone, starting from the marketplace. Zeta District is a section of the Omega station, occupying a former mining asteriod approximately twenty bajillion light years from our good old planet Earth. You are enncouraged to avoid feeding the varren.

[ They break out of the market area in short order and hit a side street leading them further from the noise. There's a little bit of lost time to make up, and Marco's not wasting any more by taking the scenic route. Despite his flippant tone, he's not even looking at Eames; he's constantly scanning their vector, walking a fine line between being really alert and being flat-out paranoid. ]

And as for the why? Well, shit, dude, I guess when a man and a woman love each other very much, there are some consequences to their actions or something. What do you wanna know that for?
paisleythief: (.i am waiting for the stream to)

claps hands together excitedly!!

[personal profile] paisleythief 2013-04-21 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ Outside pockets are for dilettantes.

With the information Eames has asked for outright, comes the details that a man like Eames is more interested in. This young man, Marco, is displaced from Earth as well, not a native of this place and more than likely unhappy about it. Eames can't tell if the combination of his age and this displacement is what makes him jumpy or if there's some other reason he's carrying- but that's sure to come out in time.
]

Former? What purpose does Omega station serve now? [ Eames casts a mischievous glance at the boy as he slips through what Eames would ordinarily call the more interesting part of town. ] Intergalactic pizza hub?

[ Theres something about the way Marco moves around the garbage in the streets and the odd piece of discarded furniture left in the alley, lacking that youthful clumsiness so signature of someone his age. Hands in his pockets and close on Marco's heels, Eames turns the thought over in the back of his mind. ]

Floating around on an asteroid in some far flung recess of space and you don't want to know why you're here? [ Rhetorical questions always sound vaguely patronizing, don't they? ] There's a saying about pens being mightier than swords, but I find knowledge is more valuable than both.
tradecraftdude: 04 (cute charming witty and modest)

[personal profile] tradecraftdude 2013-04-21 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Come on, dude, don't play stupid with me. This place is more obviously a criminal party zone than Disneyland's pirate ride. Fifteen men on a dead man's chest!

[ Marco's flicking glances at you over his shoulder, too, Eames; he might have taken your money, but that doesn't mean he trusts you. He can smell someone fishing for information, and while he appreciates a fellow snoop, this slimey limey is earning himself a dose of 'i've-got-my-eye-on-you'. ]

And you know what saying I like better? Ignorance is bliss. I can't help being here, and I can't leave, so I'm not gonna worry about things that are out of my hands. But whatever, this isn't about my own personal soul-searching, unless I've majorly misread your intentions about wanting an insider's hints for survival on this rock, and instead you're just like, creeping on me.

[ He pauses for a moment to give Eames a brief Stare before he continues walking. The number of times people old enough to be Marco's parents have taken a very strange interest in getting inside his head, sheesh. ]
paisleythief: (.vacancy in the shape of your hands)

[personal profile] paisleythief 2013-04-21 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Eames can't help but grin at the rough handling; Marco certainly isn't winning any awards for pageantry here. ] Where there are criminals there are always do-gooders. No local law enforcement to gentrify the place? Lock up the baddies when the party gets too rowdy?

[ Pulling his hands from his pockets when he's speared with A Look, Eames holds them out palms up, as if saying no bad intentions here! Its an intentionally disingenuous motion if there ever were one. ]

No creeping intended. Although, for future reference, had I the intention to creep on you, leading a man much larger than you into an alley is probably not the smartest move on your behalf. [ Eames slips his hands back into his pockets, adding, because he knows the kind of mislead confidence a heavy piece of metal can give a person. ] Regardless of what precautions you may already be carrying.

[ Moving on, because he doesn't want Marco to feel provoked. ] Why do you say you can't leave? I assume there have been attempts to escape?
tradecraftdude: 00 (Default)

[personal profile] tradecraftdude 2013-04-21 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Marco thinks about his roommate the robocop. Plus all the people who decided that following him around to make sure he keeps his nose out of trouble was their favorite hobby. Suppresses a shudder. ]

There aren't any laws to enforce, dude. The best we've got are vigilantes trying to keep a hold of their own precious shreds of morality. Good and bad are like completely useless terms here. It's about survive or die.

[ He shrugs as Eames backs off a little, though he's going to keep trying to edge out more of a personal bubble for himself now. ]

And it's not just about what I'm carrying myself. [ Let the implication hang in the air; Marco might just be a lightly armed pizza boy, but he's apparently not afraid of getting called on his bluff. Or he's convinced himself he needs to be dead certain that no one will call him out in order to maintain the appearance of being untouchable. Either way, he's confident he's got the advantage over Eames for home turf knowledge, so he'll keep it up as long as the threats don't escalate a hair above casual joking around.

Unless Eames is faking it just to catch him off guard.

Well, shit, Marco's going to work himself into a paranoid fit at any moment now. Good thing they've pulled out of the narrow streets; now it's just a matter of taking a lift up to the apartment that made the order. He taps a foot while waiting for the doors to open. ]

Passage off the rock costs big money, which I don't have. You wanna make another contribution to my scholarship fund?
