Welcome to the outsiders test drive meme! You can use this post to tag with characters you're interested in bringing to the game or who you'd like to try out in the setting.

[He pauses]

It was, okay. Weird. The AI in charge was crazy and usually trying to kill us, so we shut her down.

Some of the people were nice.

[she nods at his first question

and then looks a bit worried at an AI trying to keep people. freaky...]

That's how it is most of the time, right? Some people are nice and some people are rude.

Like being here, for example. That guy that ran off was completely rude, but you're nice, Roxas!

Huh, right. What do you mean by accustomed to such things? You mean things that are overwhelming or evil schemes that may or may not include your dog? [He'll display a brief smile for the joke.]

But. Scared of you? ... Why? Because you're a mage? I'd think being recruited into the Wardens would be a reason to overlook that sort of fear for most, at least at that time. Or, I'd hope so. Then again, I wouldn't really know myself and there could always be, well. Differences.

[A nervous chuckle] Wow. Um. Not to offend or anything, really, buuut I've only known you for less than an hour and that's maybe just a little creepy. [He'll exhale a sigh] But. Ah, yes. You're right. I do have something to ask, or rather some things. However, I'm not... entirely sure I want to know the answer. Or if it's my business to know the answer. Or. I suppose it is in a way. Anyways. What I wanted to ask was, what exactly was with your, um. Greeting earlier? Or do you always greet people you know as if they've spat in your cheese soup?

[Roxas kind of looks sheepish at that.]

I guess, yeah. Was it like that on your ship?

[spellmight]

My dog is smart enough to be the mastermind behind any schemes, thanks. [ it's strange to joke with him again, and her smile is a bit awkward. ] But no. Do you not find the circumstances even a little overwhelming?

[ it occurs to her that in all the discussions they've had, they have not once even touched on this. she had never told him just how terrified she had been. she releases a sigh. ]

You say that as though it's nothing. Those differences you speak of have existed for a long time. I hardly expected a King to set them aside so easily.

[ which may explain a bit why it bothers her so much that alistair had not been able to entirely put them aside, either. but that is a whole other matter entirely, and probably not even applicable any more. since he doesn't remember-or may never have known. ]

Oh. I.. I'm sorry. Habit. [ she tugs on a strand of hair nervously. ] You and I were.. er. It's complicated. We were close but life and circumstances and [ the giant stick up his ass. ] made things difficult.

We fought, I suppose. But it doesn't really matter here, does it? You either don't remember or never knew me in the first place. I meant it when I apologized.

I do! I'm just... trying to take things one step at a time. I suppose. And maybe trying to not think about it so much. Hah, but that one does nooot seem to be working, does it? I don't know, though. I guess it just hasn't sunk in yet. It still doesn't seem real to me, how all of this is possible. What about you? Already adapted like you said? I mean, the idea of being here. Of maybe... well, being here for some time.

Huh, well. Fair enough. I'm glad he did that for you then.

[Well that's different. He'll give her a questioning look and an awkward smile.]

You and I... complicated? [Considering Brosca, he can't really imagine it being any other way than constant arguments. He'll shrug. She's uncomfortable he can take a hint - sometimes.] Well, all right then. If it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. I was just curious.

No. I am.. overwhelmed. But I also think that now is a good time to seek out information and learn about this place, rather than simply wondering how we got here.

[ she clears her throat awkwardly. solona can only hope that her cheeks aren't burning. ]

I'd rather not discuss it beyond that. [ he barely knows her. how can she broach the subject of her relationship with him-or another him? she can't. ] It doesn't matter in the context of our situation. Maybe someday I'll tell you all about it.

But now, provided you're willing to work with me, we should start finding some answers.

[He'll rub the back of his head. He doesn't completely get it. But okay.] That ... bad, huh? Well, good to know. Although if it was that bad, what makes you think now would be any better? Or do you think I'm really different from this "other" Alistair of yours? Not that I'm against speaking with you or anything, of course not. I'm just wondering since, you know. Not everyday you hear about another you.

But. Right, of course. I um... We should probably get moving. Standing here certainly solves nothing. So! Lead on.

[spellmight]

Yes. [ she pauses, and chooses to look up straight in to his eyes. ] I don't know that yet. But I'll never know unless I find out, will I? Your circumstances are different-I need to consider that. Beyond that, we are comrades in arms.

A- oh, no. Not this time. [ her mouth presses itself in to a line. ]

I'm tired of leading, I think. Three years is more than enough. It's your turn.

So! Lead on.

[A brief shrug.] Can't really argue that. But. Fair enough, then.

[Say whut. Nervous chuuuuuckling....] Haha.. aahh... Ah... Me? I...uh, really? I guess I can? But. Well. Don't blame me if we get lost. Which is more than likely. Very likely. Definitely, even. Honestly, I'm not even sure how I found the market to begin with. Are you... sure you want me to lead us anywhere?

[spellmight]

Yes, you. I realize that it's awkward to hear from some one you've never known. But I think you are more capable than you give yourself credit for.

[ and, well. she may as well explain. ]

The First Warden made me Commander after the Blight, and Arl of Amaranthine. Howe was dealt with-I hope in your ..version of things he will be, also. And things were a royal mess for a while. To put it lightly.

[ she gives him a brief, weary smile. ] I wouldn't mind following for a while. And I trust you with my life. You should work on trusting yourself. Once you're able to do that.. well.

[ she cuts herself off before she mentioned the king thing. that is dangerously close to their previous talk of conversation and. just no. he likes to feel needed and appreciated. and she thinks she's done as good as she can with that considering things for now.

and that she hadn't seen any of those blasted toys he likes for sale in the market. blight taken them. ]

[calibrating]

Turians aren't much different than humans-- some of us are nice, some of us are complete bastards.

Either way, I'd say you definitely got lucky that I'm the one you met.

[Ah yes, ego.]

[ Okay, that gets a laugh out of her. She doesn't know enough about him -- or, you know, turians in general -- to quite be able to tell if he's being tongue in cheek or totally serious yet, but either way, she thinks it's funny. ]

Well, I guess I'm not totally shit out of luck yet, then. It's a stretch, though.

[ It was months and months ago, but thinking of the day she'd been snatched from her own universe -- it still stings a little, thinking about what she's left behind, even if she's already moved on and let herself mourn it. She shrugs again, the movement looking fluid and easy even in her bulky armor. ]

Universe takes all kinds, huh?

[calibrating]

Yeah, diversity and all that fun stuff. Omega's full of it.

[He motions with his head towards a wonderfully seedy looking bar]

This looks like a prime spot for trouble.

[neverknocks]

Oh, great. I love trouble.

[ it is probably not physically or linguistically possible to cram any more sarcasm into those five words than she already has

She heads toward the bar with Garrus, though, trying to take in every bit of information she can. Good lord, does this place have aliens. Still, she'll take any of these over the Covenant. ]

So what do you drink around here, anyway?

[calibrating]

Me, personally, or the fine people of Omega?

[He caught that sarcasm, York. And he's pretty impressed by it, too]

By the way, if you look to your left, you'll find yourself a whole group of batarians. Just don't make it obvious. Or catch any of their eyes.

[neverknocks]

[ oh Garrus if that level of sarcasm impresses you, you guys are gonna get along just fine. York probably would've gone crazy a long time ago if it weren't for sarcasm.

And okay, she knows how to be discreet. Discretion is kind of her job. Well, eh, sort of. Still, she manages a careful glance at the batarians out of the corner of her eye -- a hell of a lot easier now that she's got both of them working -- and she gives Garrus a slight nod. ]

Ah, yeah, I've seen 'em around. Good to know that's what they're called.

[ And as for the drinks -- well, York just gives him a grin and shrugs. ]

You seem like you've got better taste than most of the poor suckers around here. C'mon, I'm open to suggestions.

[cosmosic]

[Aw. Ino smiles at him. It's true. After roaming the area for a bit, everyone giving her glares for being too close (as if she was going to steal something) and Roxas is the nicest person.

But he causes her to go a bit thoughtful. Of course Thor was/is like that too but it was more than just bad and good. She saw characters that just didn't care too. The ones that come to mind -Rose, Ace, Shinpachi, Sanji, RJ- they were all nice. But then there were the Purists, the reason there was trouble in the first place.

If the AI was Roxas' version of an antagonist, then the Purists were definitely Ino's.]

Yeah, something like that. I think there were people that just didn't care though, too. It was a lot like this place, anyway. A lot of aliens and not enough normal people.

[calibrating]

Normally, I'd be more than happy to suggest a little something for you, buuuut unless you're hiding a little bit of turian or quarian in there, it would probably kill you.

[Which is, again, common knowledge. Just like the batarians.]

[Either she's a damn good, determined actress, or he needs to start poking around]

[neverknocks]

[ York's eyebrows shoot up, and she gives Garrus a baffled stare for a moment before she works it out. She huffs out a laugh, shaking her head. ]

Guess we don't eat the same food, then.

[ They approach the bar and York takes a seat, glancing around for a moment. ]

Guess I'll just have to trust the bartender, then.

And no real way to tell who's friendly and who's not?

[That was how it had been on Sacrosanct, at least until he'd started talking to people.]

[calibrating]

You catch on pretty quick.

[He does what could only be described as a stilted eyebrow quirk, his stiff plates not allowing for much movement]

Except for that last part. I'll get you something that someone I know orders a bunch. You look like you can handle it.

[neverknocks]

[ The facial gestures don't translate exactly, but York gets the gist. She feels like she's getting it more the longer she talks to him, too, and she gives him a grin. ]

Well, shit, I think that's the nicest thing anybody's said about me all day.

[ On both counts. This place isn't very friendly okay.

York sits back a little to let Garrus do the ordering, her gaze still moving around the bar, drinking in the details. ]

So you still think I'm a lunatic?

[calibrating]

I think you believe whatever it is you're saying.

[Garrus calls over a server and places their orders, keeping his weapons in plain sight the whole time.]

[When he's done, he makes a quick sweep around the room of his own before addressing York again, his hands folding neatly into a perch for his chin]

I also think I may wanna hear more. If you're willing to share, of course.

[Ino is a decent sensory ninja, but when it comes to who's nice and who's not and the types in between...there weren't many people with that ability.]

Not really because you can never judge a book by its cover!
