Welcome to the
outsiders test drive meme! You can use this post to tag with characters you're interested in bringing to the game or who you'd like to try out in the setting.

Please set all threads in one of three areas: the landing zone, where your character get off the shuttle upon arrival; the markets, where your character might run into any of the station's alien population; or in the residential district they'll be staying in.
φ Please give the name and canon of your character in the subject line! OCs and AUs are welcome.
φ You may use threads from this post as a log sample, so long as it has at least 5 of your comments in action tags or prose.
φ You can keep CR from this meme if both players agree to it OOCly, and so long as you keep interactions to these starting areas.
φ Apps open on 1/27; the game opens 2/2.
φ You can find more information on our setting here, and our navigation is here!

Oh, I get it. Someone put you up to this, didn't they? I wouldn't be surprised. "Confuse Alistair! Give him the wrong directions, have him think he's gone mad!" That'll be a laugh, surely. Well, joke appreciated but I think I've had my fill for today. Now if you've had your fun, I think I'll just take my leave...
no subject
Some how I think I'd need to try a lot harder than spout the truth. I do not doubt your intelligence despite your attempts to play it off.
[ it's true. he's a dick, but a smart dick. most of the time. ]
What will be a laugh? Or is it so hard to believe that Duncan would bother to recruit a mage?
[ she looks away. ] You're not the only one he saw worth in. He was the first person from outside the Circle to ever do so with me.
no subject
I never said that. And don't bring Duncan into this... this joke of yours. I don't know you, I've never even met you before in my life. My deepest apologies, really, if you seem to remember something completely different but those are the facts. [BROSCA WOULD BE SO PROUD... He'll take a deep breath, man this hurts. Why are strangers so mean. He hates this city already. :( ] Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm done talking.
no subject
I'm not trying to joke, Alistair. I'm.. [ oh does this grate her. ]
I'm sorry. Look.. I can prove it.
[ her back has been to the vendors and away from his view all this time. but she reaches back to unstrap the familiar sword and holds their former mentor's weapon out between them like an olive branch. her eyes look more earnest now than they have during their entire conversation. ]
He meant much to me, too. I was rescued from a life I now know would never suit me. I can't ever repay him enough for that kindness.
no subject
I... how? How is that even possible? I don't understand. [He'll sheathe Duncan's sword but keep his eyes on the one she's holding before looking up at her, completely puzzled.]
That- It makes no sense. Then, who are you?
no subject
I.. am not sure. I've seen a lot of strange things, but this. [ this is some thing else. she sheathes her version of the blade again with mixed feelings. the hurt is still there in her, sinking like a stone along with her heart.
before they'd been together, they'd been friends. despite her resentment of him, it had been them against the world. and now, he doesn't know her at all. she bites her lip. ]
I agree. My name is Solona Amell, formerly a mage of the Fereldan Circle. Since Ostagar, I've been a warden just like you.
no subject
Right! Then again, if you had asked me the likelihood of finding myself on another planet a week ago I likely would have called you mad. I'm starting to believe strange is normal here. [No more bad feelings please, lets just move on.] Still... ah, never mind.
It's... a pleasure to meet you. Although I guess you already know me. And I'll take another guess and assume rather well.
no subject
This shouldn't be possible-and yet it is. If there's no real way to explain it, then I suppose adapting may be the best course. [ she's had enough of that all-too familiar sad face for today. ] What?
I... suppose it is. Thank you. And, yes. I do.
no subject
Oh! And no, it's nothing. I... no. But for now, lets um, maybe keep walking. [And then in a slightly quiet, but, loud whisper] I'm pretty sure people are staring at this point. Then again, we stick out to begin with... [Hmn, it's the shine to his armor, must be. He'll make a quick gesture in no particular direction. You pick which way, just away from the market for now. They did just draw their weapons a moment ago, probably a little suspicious.] Um anyways... shall we?
no subject
Get used to it. I'm sure any one who's dressed like us will hear it at least once more. But, I'm fine with being here, for now.
[ she knows that look and the way he starts and then fails to finishes a few sentences in a row. he really wants to say some thing. away from the market, apparently. solona shrugs her shoulders. ]
Very well. Lead on. [ she's always wanted to say that! and then she does follow him, despite it probably being her instinct to flee. still. ]
no subject
So... how long have you been here exactly? A day? Two days? A week, maybe?
no subject
[ that would afford her a glorious view! and then she'd kill the bandits and give him all the credit. that, she might not mind. ]
A few hours. What of you?
no subject
Either way, I wasn't expecting to find anyone else from Ferelden here, or Thedas even. You are from Thedas, right? You said Duncan found you at the Circle of Magi so... I just assumed. [But how are there two of Duncan? Or two of him, even? Or is there one and wow, this hurts. He'll scratch his chin before coming to a halt. It's not like he really had a direction anyway.]
Right so... I have to ask. You said that the Blight... that the Archdemon, Urthemiel, was dead. But how? We haven't even marched for battle yet. But then by we, I don't really mean you. But two of Duncan's swords and two Archdemons. Maker's breath, I don't even want to think about it. And... then the Landsmeet. I suppose I'm still just trying to make sense of all this, really. Even if it seems a little ... pointless. I don't know, what do you think?
no subject
I still don't know how to get around this place terribly well, either.
Yes, I am. [ oh here it comes. time to be grilled like a burger! ]
Because I drove my sword through its skull, only you can't or don't recall this. Nor do you seem to know who I.. oh.
[ ouch. those last days had been wonderful while they had lasted. :c ]
The truth is, I don't know any more than you do. It's been.. Maker, three years or so since I was first introduced to Duncan. You are already King and I. Am the Warden-commander of Ferelden. But you don't remember any of that and we have the same sword.
I wish I could understand. This is not the Fade, that, thankfully I can rule out. Sweet Andraste if I should never walk its roads again it will be too soon.
no subject
[But at least he isn't the only one horribly lost or confused. But she doesn't REALLY think he's still 'pretending' not to remember, right?]
Do yooouu happen to know any Wardens named Brosca? A dwarf from Orzammar, she was recruited before Ostagar as well, and also by Duncan. But I haven't seen her since, well, that flying box thing. I was going to try and look for her here, but. Well, I'd assume she would have found me herself by now, if she really wanted to. Anyways. Do you know her?
no subject
That's right. I'm assuming that perhaps some thing has happened and you've lost your memory? Other wise I'm not sure as to why you wouldn't remember.
[ no. she thinks he has selective amnesia, or some thing really really really awful has befallen him. ]
No, why would-no. There were no dwarves at Ostagar. The only recruits there other than myself were Daveth and Jory. [ she does look sad at the mention of them, her eyes diverted from their focus on him. ]
no subject
I... don't know. I don't think my memory has been affected. Oh. Heh, I uh, I guess I wouldn't really know if it was affected or not, would I? [Hmmmn..] Or maybe... It could be your memory too, you know. Not sure what that would be meant to accomplish but it's still a possibility, right?
[He'll raise an eyebrow at that.] No dwarves? Not a single one? I'd have assumed her hard to miss, she certainly argued with anyone she could. And I was with her most of the time after Duncan brought her there. Huh... [Hesitation creeps onto his speech. He wants to know, of course. But at the same time if things are actually different, well, he's just hoping he can hold it together. Falling apart in front of a stranger wouldn't be so great right now.] What about... well, what about Duncan's sword then? Why do you... Where did you find it?
no subject
I don't know. The alternative is one that must be impossible. There can not be two of Thedas, and you, and the arch-demon.
[ she shakes her head. ] Not a one. There were only us, Daveth and Jory who went in to the wilds. I'd remember a catty she-dwarf.
Oh.. [ this can lead no where good. or logical. ] I returned to Ostagar with you, Wynne and Dane. We avenged Duncan and gave your brother a proper funeral befitting of a king.
I am sorry I was never able to speak with him more when Duncan and I met him on the road. He was a good man.
[ for all the talk of his supposed lack of intelligence, she figures it was more of a case where cailan simply was ill-suited to governance and leadership. ]
no subject
I certainly hope there aren't two. Maker even with just one... No, I don't want to think about it. [Because that is worth a headache and a heart attack or worse. At least two Wynnes isn't such a bad thing.]
My.. oh. Well, I'm relieved to hear that. He was indeed a good man, yes, it's what he deserved. I never really... knew him so well myself but, I'm glad he was put to rest properly. [But he wanted to know about Duncan. :c Maybe that's a sign he shouldn't ask? He'll appear a bit troubled while he debates continuing the topic or not. Perhaps another time or never.] Maybe not, it's just as well.
By the way, who is Dane? Everyone else you've mentioned I'm familiar with, however, a Dane? Nooot so much. Although, it wouldn't really surprise me if anyone else you mentioned so far were completely different. Or maybe this is part of their evil plan to confuse us. Hah, as if dropping us onto a different planet weren't confusing enough. Quite clever really, you have to admit. All they're missing now is for everything to be upside down or opposite. [He'll give an odd sort of chuckle. This situation is just horrible.] Now that would have everyone confused. Buuut, lets not jinx it before anyone gets any ideas.
no subject
Of course. He should have been scared of me, but instead he was kind. Even welcoming.
[ she never forgets it when people have faith in her. solona frowns, continuing with her trend of being confused. ] Maybe not what? You're wanting to ask some thing. I know you well enough to tell as much.
Dane is my dog, Alistair. Hardly part of an evil scheme. But the rest, I can agree upon. All this is more than a little overwhelming. Thankfully I've had to become accustomed to such things.
no subject
But. Scared of you? ... Why? Because you're a mage? I'd think being recruited into the Wardens would be a reason to overlook that sort of fear for most, at least at that time. Or, I'd hope so. Then again, I wouldn't really know myself and there could always be, well. Differences.
[A nervous chuckle] Wow. Um. Not to offend or anything, really, buuut I've only known you for less than an hour and that's maybe just a little creepy. [He'll exhale a sigh] But. Ah, yes. You're right. I do have something to ask, or rather some things. However, I'm not... entirely sure I want to know the answer. Or if it's my business to know the answer. Or. I suppose it is in a way. Anyways. What I wanted to ask was, what exactly was with your, um. Greeting earlier? Or do you always greet people you know as if they've spat in your cheese soup?
no subject
[ it occurs to her that in all the discussions they've had, they have not once even touched on this. she had never told him just how terrified she had been. she releases a sigh. ]
You say that as though it's nothing. Those differences you speak of have existed for a long time. I hardly expected a King to set them aside so easily.
[ which may explain a bit why it bothers her so much that alistair had not been able to entirely put them aside, either. but that is a whole other matter entirely, and probably not even applicable any more. since he doesn't remember-or may never have known. ]
Oh. I.. I'm sorry. Habit. [ she tugs on a strand of hair nervously. ] You and I were.. er. It's complicated. We were close but life and circumstances and [ the giant stick up his ass. ] made things difficult.
We fought, I suppose. But it doesn't really matter here, does it? You either don't remember or never knew me in the first place. I meant it when I apologized.
no subject
Huh, well. Fair enough. I'm glad he did that for you then.
[Well that's different. He'll give her a questioning look and an awkward smile.]
You and I... complicated? [Considering Brosca, he can't really imagine it being any other way than constant arguments. He'll shrug. She's uncomfortable he can take a hint - sometimes.] Well, all right then. If it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. I was just curious.
no subject
[ she clears her throat awkwardly. solona can only hope that her cheeks aren't burning. ]
I'd rather not discuss it beyond that. [ he barely knows her. how can she broach the subject of her relationship with him-or another him? she can't. ] It doesn't matter in the context of our situation. Maybe someday I'll tell you all about it.
But now, provided you're willing to work with me, we should start finding some answers.
no subject
But. Right, of course. I um... We should probably get moving. Standing here certainly solves nothing. So! Lead on.
