What the fuck is going on?

[if one were to look at the source of the disturbance, one would find a very irritated combat drone. or one would assume it's irritated given the fact it's pulsing a bright white and flying around the area in what appears to be an agitated fashion, but that might be making too many assumptions.

maybe the fact it's swearing would be a giveaway though.]

Where the hell is this?! Are you fucking kidding me? Is this some kind of AI hell? Jesus Christ, I thought that fucking thing was just supposed to kill us!

[it finally seems to notice, of course, that it's... a drone. and not in a body. but able to move on it's own. and it finally stops. and tries... to look down at itself... and realizes it absolutely can't.]

What the fuck am I?! This is total bullshit! I knew this whole thing was a bad idea. I'm going to kill that motherfucker-

[it stops when it realizes a weird lizard-looking alien is staring at him, and if it had eyes, it would narrow them] The hell are you looking at?! This isn't a peep show! Keep moving, bug-eyes!

[ Doesn't matter how long it's been since he's heard that voice. Doesn't matter where it's coming from, either, or that it's loud enough that he hears it just going past the landing zone. There's never going to be a time he does't react.

It's not Epsilon. There's no question of that. For someone else, it might not have been so easy to tell the difference, but Wash isn't someone else.

He steps out into the zone, eyes settling on the drone, and tries to swallow the lump in his throat. ]

Alpha.

[since he'd just heard that voice not too long ago, it's not hard to pin it down. but the fact that he uses that fucking name instead of the one he'd vastly prefer, he's already off to a bad start.

so when the floating orb speeds on over to pulse at him in irritation, it shouldn't be a surprise] Would you knock it off with that 'Alpha' bullshit? How many times do we have to-

[wait. wait. wait. what the hell] -dude, what the fuck happened to your armor?

[ This is the part where Wash thinks back to the conversation he had with Epsilon on the same topic. He has a funny feeling that Alpha won't take the knowledge he's been replaced any more easily. ]

...Long story.

[ YEAH LET'S JUST SKIP THAT. And move on to more important things. ]

What happened to you?

[good call. replaced by epsilon and wash? he's probably going to be pissed.

but the parts of his drone...body that spin are spinning pretty damn fast, and he's still moving pretty erratically]

Do I look like I have a fucking clue? One minute we were in that base and now I'm here! Floating around! What the hell happened, Wash?!

[ welp. Yeah, this is Alpha, all right. If only he could get away with "long story" twice.

Explanations later, though. Right now he just wants information. ]

So-- wait, you were activated in that thing?

[yeah no dice buddy. we'll revisit the new paint job later.]

I wasn't activated in anything! Where the hell is my body? Floating around is cool and all but I want my goddamn arms back.

[ siiiiiiiiigh. Doesn't matter what universe he's in: the second Alpha shows up, the second the bitching starts. ]

Look. You're stuck here, all right? We all are. You probably just got moved into a mobile platform.

[ or. something. ]

[north is passing through the landing zone on his way to run an errand for carolina when he stops. theta begins buzzing loudly in the back of his mind and though he's taught him to speak to him first instead of just appearing, and what he says catches him off-guard.

he hadn't really even noticed the drone floating around, though now that his attention has been drawn to it, he can't help but to take in just how long and .. profane the thing is.

and at theta's insistence - though he doesn't explain why - he approaches the thing and allows his ai to appear to speak to it.

this is going to end badly. very, very badly.] H-Hey - [theta begins, voice small and shy as it always is when he's speaking to someone he's never met before.] Hi. Are you lost?

[he's not paying any real mind to the people passing by, except to yell at them when they get caught staring at him. he's not quite getting the hint that VI programs aren't supposed to be quite this opinionated, but then when does alpha ever get any hints?

though when some dude in freelancer armor walks up and his little AI starts talking to him, that catches his attention] Do I look like I'm fucking lost? No. Get lost. I've had enough Freelancers today, thanks.

[and cue theta already deflating. (if ai could deflate, that is, but the thought of it alone is depressing enough considering just who it is.)

north knows more than he should about ai trying to pass themselves off as vi on this station, just for the simple fact that he's been trying to get theta to act a little .. less independent just so they don't draw attention, but when this drone starts in on him like that, he can't help but to scowl inside his helmet.

excuse you.

meanwhile, theta doesn't stop trying.] I was just trying to be helpful! You don't have to be mean about it.

[and that makes north scowl even harder.] Hey, lighten up, will you? Aren't VI supposed to be nicer than this?

[pause. wait for it.

there it is.] Wait a minute. What do you know about Freelancers?

[it only took him half a second to realize what was off.

and they say he's the more observant one.]

[alpha really doesn't care, because he's probably the worlds biggest dick. but if he had eyes, he'd be rolling them right now.] Well I don't need help. Least of all from some guy's AI. Last time I followed the advice I got from one I ended up in a really shitty situation.

[and then he turns to north, and lets out an irritated grunt] Maybe they are but I'm not a fucking VI, asshole. No one asked you.

[...welp.] I know they're all dicks.

[of course he doesn't care. not that north would know that, but just on principle, he can't help the way his eyes are narrowing behind his visor. he doesn't know what this thing is, doesn't know where he comes from or why he knows about freelancers, and he doesn't like the thought of where any of that is going.

he doesn't like anything about this situation, but there isn't anything he can do about it.

while theta seems like he wants to shrink further and further away from the drone, it doesn't keep him from talking - even if it sounds a little shaky at this point.] But .. that's .. that's what I'm here for! T-to help! .. North, I'm helpful, right?

[okay alpha you're really going to get it if you make his ai any more upset than he already is. the fact that north isn't being spoke to with any measure of respect doesn't make this any easier.] Oh, we're all dicks, huh? Sounds like you have a personal problem that needs to be worked out.

[pause.] Who are you?
