TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to the
outsiders test drive meme! You can use this post to tag with characters you're interested in bringing to the game or who you'd like to try out in the setting.

Please set all threads in one of three areas: the landing zone, where your character get off the shuttle upon arrival; the markets, where your character might run into any of the station's alien population; or in the residential district they'll be staying in.
φ Please give the name and canon of your character in the subject line! OCs and AUs are welcome.
φ You may use threads from this post as a log sample, so long as it has at least 5 of your comments in action tags or prose.
φ You can keep CR from this meme if both players agree to it OOCly, and so long as you keep interactions to these starting areas.
φ Apps open on 1/27; the game opens 2/2.
φ You can find more information on our setting here, and our navigation is here!

Marian Hawke | Dragon Age II | markets
The problem, of course, is not that there are aliens instead of dwarves. Some of them are quite strange to behold and Hawke's done her best not to stare in incredulity. It's not the open area or the metal instead of stone that throws her off or makes her a little wary about where she steps. It's not even the lack of stares she's gotten because of the staff strapped to her back. No, it's the wares that are bothering her.
Bullets. Medical gel? Clunky armor. None of it is going to help her.]
No, no, you misunderstand me. I'm looking for elfroot. Elf-root. I can't use any of this. [The vendor clicks his tongue(?) at her.] A potion would be nice if you have it...
[And, again, he offers his wares. He points the medical gel out to her.] ...I don't have much choice, do I? Coin is acceptable, right? [She hasn't gotten the hang of whatever it is she should be using, but apparently, that's the wrong answer. The vendor shakes his head.]
I'll try back another time, then? Sorry.
[Ugh, wonderful. She leaves the vendor to go wander by the railing, taking another look out into the city proper, all dark and punctuated by lights in the distance. Her arms lean against the rails and she sighs.]

[a woman soldier leans on the railing next to Hawke and offers the medi-gel, smiling in a friendly if wary manner.]
Looked like you needed help with the currency exchange.
[there's a question that doesn't have to be answered; otherwise, it's amiable teasing from a complete stranger.]
no subject
Thanks. I'm not really used to being given the skeptical eye, much less being a receiver of handouts. This just...isn't familiar to me.
[Which is an understatement, obviously.]
Have a few tips for a stranger?
no subject
[she turns around, so she's leaning back on the railing on her elbows] Tips, huh. For one, coins aren't going to get you very far. Where do you come from that they still use analog currency?
no subject
[Lovely place so far.]
Thedas. Kirkwall, more specifically. Please tell me you've heard of it.
no subject
Pretty sure I've never heard of a colony called "Thedas". [she shrugs, trying to grin encouragingly] To be fair, it's a big galaxy, and I don't get a whole lot of shore leave.
no subject
[Not like Isabela, she can already tell. But that makes her sound an awful lot like...]
Are you a soldier? Or a Warden?
no subject
Are 'Wardens' a new merc group?
no subject
No, not really. They're a rather mysterious bunch from my home. More like protectors.

[The tone is bright and perky and so very much that of a teenager blatantly attempting to get someone to do something for them. Something that They (those good, responsible adults of the world. That exist. Somewhere. She thinks?) would not approve of. To make it better- or worse- it's accompanied by a matching 'oh the cleverness of me' smile as Maeby moseys up to the woman who is one of the few other humans in the area. The woman negotiating for 'elf-root' and 'potions.']
Are you trying to find "herbs"?
[Oh yeah. Air quotes are go.]
no subject
And what is with the air quotes.]
You could say that. Why do you ask?
no subject
[Shrug. Some weird way too many eyed guy had been serving and some human ended up squirming on the floor. Then no longer squirming. Then they dragged him away. Maeby had chosen that as a good time to make an exit from the general bar area.]
Anyway, my childhood is officially over. So I think a little adult recreation is deserved. I just...have no idea where you find that. It's, like, I usually have people for this?
no subject
[But it's said with a hint of a smile. Hawke's used to people like her, after all, and what she has to say is a bit...curious. She raises an eyebrow.]
Elfroot's nothing like that. It's a healing herb. You use it on wounds.
no subject
[Her shoulders instantly go down. Interest level: plummeting]
Well, that's a buzz kill. You can just go to the shady back alley doctor for that.
