Welcome to the
outsiders test drive meme! You can use this post to tag with characters you're interested in bringing to the game or who you'd like to try out in the setting.

Please set all threads in one of three areas: the landing zone, where your character get off the shuttle upon arrival; the markets, where your character might run into any of the station's alien population; or in the residential district they'll be staying in.
φ Please give the name and canon of your character in the subject line! OCs and AUs are welcome.
φ You may use threads from this post as a log sample, so long as it has at least 5 of your comments in action tags or prose.
φ You can keep CR from this meme if both players agree to it OOCly, and so long as you keep interactions to these starting areas.
φ Apps open on 1/27; the game opens 2/2.
φ You can find more information on our setting here, and our navigation is here!

Solona Amell | Dragon Age | Open ( Markets )
[ the blue fellow she seems to be arguing with responds so quickly that solona can't catch what he's said. she does not understand. what are these grenades and medi-gel packs, and why does she need them, again? ]
[ eventually she tires of the endless flow of words and holds up a hand. perhaps some coercion may help get her some answers. ]
I understand, ser. But you see I do not know what these credits are. I'm just a humble traveler far from home. Surely a man of your knowledge and repute would be quite able to give some one like me a quick explanation?
[ welp, it works. sort of. the response is simply-again much too fast for her to catch. eventually she gives the man a polite smile and a nod and backs away slowly from the stall. ]
Thank you, that was very helpful. I shall return if I have any further questions.
[ time to walk away from this one. maybe she will have better luck at the next stall. for all its cleanliness, this place is starting to grate on her. it has a disturbing lack of bandits. ]
no subject
chuck blinks. chuck takes a very deliberate step back. ]
Okay. Uh. Not sure what you're doing... I mean you're either going to compliment me on my natural manly musk or you're considering what herbs would go well with my roasted body. [ very slowly like he's afraid to talk too quickly or make any sudden movements. he takes another step away and nearly runs into solona ]
Whoa! Hey sorry uh. If you're going there - [ widening his eyes at her and then jerking his head to indicate the stall he'd just retreated from with laudable (laudable ok!) speed ] Don't.
no subject
It's alright. [ she shoots the offending stall a look. ] I saw what happened.
Either you smell like roses and sunshine, or he has a rather personal way of saying hello. I think I'll take my chances else where.
Personal space seems to be a dying concept these days.

[ Anders sidles between passersby to reach for Amell's elbow. The voice precedes the touch. ]
Now is that your egg money, your pin money, or the entire treasury of Vigil's Keep you're packing? That's got to weigh a ton. [ Hyperbole, granted. ] Can't we get you a pack mule or something?
[ Famous last words from the most feathery of possible mules. ]
no subject
I don't know, you might resemble her if you grow out your hair some.
Sweet Andraste, it's good to see you, Anders!
[ oho, a smirk replaces her smile. ]
It might just be the entire treasury. But I see a woeful lack of mules here. Are you volunteering?
no subject
What, me? Volunteer? When have you known me to volunteer for anything?
... except killing darkspawn. I'll admit I volunteered for that. I thought it would involve more shooting lightning at things, less hiking. Certainly much less looting.
[ When they're looting, people have to carry the loot. On the other hand, all that looting's what funded the riches Solona is presently toting about. Anyhow the complaints are mostly for show; Anders has no difficulty whatsoever taking the gold off her hands. He's more muscular than the average Circle mage has any business being. ]
no subject
Oh, you're not saying I'll need to twist your arm, are you?
And here I thought you enjoyed all the exercise! Hiking is not so very risky as swimming, after all.
[ she gives him an earnest smile when he takes the heavy purse off her. for all the banter, she has realized over the years that he is one of the best and most loyal friends she has made. ]
Thank you. And I meant it, you know. I've missed the smell of damp cat. And you as well of course.
no subject
No one needs to twist my arm! It's just fine the way it is, thanks!
[ But he grins at Amell and lets the pretense drop just as readily. Her allusion to his infamous escape-by-swimming is taken as a compliment rather than complaint; though it would've been understandable for the other apprentices to resent the consequent loss of swimming sessions, Anders really didn't have their welfare in mind at the time. More interested in saving his own skin. When, inevitably, he was brought back to the Tower, the net effect had been an increase in notoriety and therefore popularity. ]
The feeling's mutual, you know. [ A pause for effect, then: ] Who wouldn't miss the smell of damp cat?
no subject
[ luckily for solona, all she'd missed out on by then was the recreational activity of swimming. her lessons had already been completed. she laughs some. ]
It's nice to know I've been missed. [ her eyebrows raise. ] My guess would be Oghren.
no subject
no subject
Could it be that the cat helps you earn more hero-worship?
I believe you can inspire that all on your own, I'll have you know.
no subject
No, hero-worship isn't what Oghren resents. The cat's as good as a baby. Carrying a wee kitten makes me more ... [ He tilts his head. ] Approachable. No cat could do that for a dwarf who waves his battle-axe at everything and probably stores the odd snack or two in his beard.
Anyhow I like cats. I'd carry Ser Pounce-a-lot to the end of the world, no matter what anyone thought.
no subject
[ a twinkle enters her eyes. ]
Oh, I see. A small, fuzzy, defenseless creature makes seduction that much easier. Oghren would never know if it could work for him unless he decides to try it.
[ she'd heard every syllable of that banter, dude. solona's smile fades and leaves behind a wistful look. ]
I understand. I feel that way about my dog.

/CATAPULTS
You didn't understand a word of what he said, did you? Can't say I could make out much myself. You just sort of begin resorting to gestures after a while. They think your dumb, maybe but at least you get pointed in the right direction of where you wanted to go. Well, usually, anyway.
no subject
[ how can he act like this is a friendly visit, though? she straightens herself and turns around to look at him, her face schooled to calmness and neutrality. it's hard to upkeep. ]
And you've divined this simply through the art of observation, have you, Alistair? I can't say that I much care about his opinion on my intelligence.
All I want is to exchange this blighted gold for some credits.
Now to what do I owe the honor of being in your Royal Presence?
no subject
Uh.... Pardon? I'm not quite sure we've even met, milady. It wasn't my intention to offend you though, really. I'm just as lost as you are... and perhaps a little more now.
['Hmn...' Well, this is certainly off to an awkward start!]
no subject
Are you jesting? Usually your jokes are a bit funnier. Just a bit.
We met at Ostagar, put down a Blight together, and I killed a very large dragon. Does any of that ring a bell in that hard head of yours?
[ and how! ]
no subject
Unfortunately, no, I'm not jesting. If you were at Ostagar, it's possible we may have met. [You... aren't one of those mages he pissed off with the messages, right? Why are you so hostile?] But hold on. More importantly, what do you mean put down a Blight? The Blight's still going and, well, I certainly haven't been fighting any dragons with you. That I would have remembered. Trust me, the phrase burned into your mind could never be more true. But that's... not the case, I'm afraid.
[An uncomfortable shift in his weight as he rubs his forehead. This is what he gets for attempting to be friendly and having a bit of small talk.
How is it exactly did you say you knew me? Maybe we can um, try and sort this whole mess out. Perhaps? Milady...?
no subject
I distinctly remember you joking about throwing a party to confuse the darkspawn. How could you forget such a ice-breaker?
[ there is more hurt there. either he's doing this deliberately or.. somehow he really has for-wait. ]
No, it's finished. Done. Urthemiel was vanquished and how do you not recall this?
[ she could be cattier, but it would solve nothing. ]
Don't bother calling me that. You've made it more than clear that a mage is beneath you. How do I know you? I was recruited by Duncan! You are either bewitched or addled not to remember these things.
no subject
Oh, I get it. Someone put you up to this, didn't they? I wouldn't be surprised. "Confuse Alistair! Give him the wrong directions, have him think he's gone mad!" That'll be a laugh, surely. Well, joke appreciated but I think I've had my fill for today. Now if you've had your fun, I think I'll just take my leave...
no subject
Some how I think I'd need to try a lot harder than spout the truth. I do not doubt your intelligence despite your attempts to play it off.
[ it's true. he's a dick, but a smart dick. most of the time. ]
What will be a laugh? Or is it so hard to believe that Duncan would bother to recruit a mage?
[ she looks away. ] You're not the only one he saw worth in. He was the first person from outside the Circle to ever do so with me.
no subject
I never said that. And don't bring Duncan into this... this joke of yours. I don't know you, I've never even met you before in my life. My deepest apologies, really, if you seem to remember something completely different but those are the facts. [BROSCA WOULD BE SO PROUD... He'll take a deep breath, man this hurts. Why are strangers so mean. He hates this city already. :( ] Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm done talking.
no subject
I'm not trying to joke, Alistair. I'm.. [ oh does this grate her. ]
I'm sorry. Look.. I can prove it.
[ her back has been to the vendors and away from his view all this time. but she reaches back to unstrap the familiar sword and holds their former mentor's weapon out between them like an olive branch. her eyes look more earnest now than they have during their entire conversation. ]
He meant much to me, too. I was rescued from a life I now know would never suit me. I can't ever repay him enough for that kindness.
no subject
I... how? How is that even possible? I don't understand. [He'll sheathe Duncan's sword but keep his eyes on the one she's holding before looking up at her, completely puzzled.]
That- It makes no sense. Then, who are you?
