outsiders test drive meme! You can use this post to tag with characters you're interested in bringing to the game or who you'd like to try out in the setting.

φ Please give the name and canon of your character in the subject line! OCs (including Mass Effect OCs) and AUs are welcome.
φ You may use threads from this post as a log sample, so long as it has at least 5 of your comments in action tags or prose.
φ If you app in later, you can keep CR from this meme if both players agree to it OOCly, and so long as you keep interactions to these starting areas.
φ Apps and reserves and are always open! Our next processing round runs from 4/20 through 4/26.
φ You can find more information on our setting here, and our navigation is here!

LINA INVERSE | SLAYERS
But being dumped in a grubby, dank station on some rock in space -- who puts things out in space? -- is not something she's willing to compromise over. Everyone here is rude, it's crowded, and it's dirty and ugh, it smells. For somebody used to being out in the open air all the time, the place has a stagnancy to it that Lina finds awfully unappealing, and although she's endlessly fascinated in the strange, light-based magic everyone seems to be using here, her interest is overshadowed with a strong sour note. And to top it all off, this place is a total freak show. There are humans here, too, but most of the people here look like hideous beastmen, or some kind of mass-produced chimeras or something. She really doesn't know what's up with that, but she wants to find out.
God, she hopes there aren't any fish people here.
Lina's curiosity might have actually gotten the best of her mood if it weren't for the fact that apparently her money is no good here. She has a purse full of perfectly good gold, and nobody here will take it! She doesn't exactly understand why anyone would rely on a currency system based on invisible money, but once she finds out about the omni-tool she figures it out pretty quickly. Only to discover that...she doesn't have a dime to her name in this world's currency.
And she is so hungry.
So if you see Lina getting into a fight with a few aliens over currency and food, don't be too surprised. ]
Re: LINA INVERSE | SLAYERS
[He felt his curiosity prick at some commotion below on the ground, with some loud-mouthed human.]
Re: LINA INVERSE | SLAYERS
[ Lina slams her hand down angrily on the counter, glaring at the batarian behind it. ]
Honestly? Your food -- whatever it's made of -- doesn't even look that good! But I'm really hungry, and I have gold, so why won't you just take it?
[ The batarian makes some rude comments in Lina's general direction. It's clear her temper isn't weathering the interaction very well. ]
Re: LINA INVERSE | SLAYERS
Give me one gold piece, and I'll pay for your food.
[Short, straight to the point, there was no point for easing into things in this context.]

Yep, giant winged robot that turns into a jet. Have fun with that.]

Uh -- what the hell are you?
no subject
[Peers curiously at her, considering.]
You are human, aren't you? You resemble one, but appearances can be deceiving. [For one thing, her dress didn't look like the majority he'd seen on Earth. If anything, it looked historical.]
[Back to actually answering her.... He examines his claws, voice vaguely bored.]
What do you think I am?
[Her style of dress did look historical...historically predating the human concept of 'robots' even. Probably made more sense to get an idea of her own terminology first, figure out how to explain himself in terms she'd understand best.]
no subject
[ Most golems don't talk, though. And it looks...awfully sleek and well put together for any old golem. Lina gives him a baffled look, scratching her head, and then scowls. ]
Of course I'm human! What do I look like to you?!
no subject
Jewish Folklore. a figure artificially constructed in the form of a human being and endowed with life.
2.
a stupid and clumsy person; blockhead.
3.
an automaton.'
Made sense, except for the second option (though Knock Out would probably say that fit Starscream in particular).]
That is one way of putting it, though I was born, not made. [Gives a shrug.] Last place I was in that was populated by humans, their popular term was 'robot.'
[Yep, still loud. Starting to really grate.]
Outdated. [What was with her form of dress? Was time travel involved too, along with interdimensional travel?]
no subject
[ Maybe it's just another word for golem. Lina would like to ask more, she honestly would, but -- that remark about her appearance makes her give the robot an unimpressed look. ]
Excuse me?
no subject
The last place I was in that had a significant human population dressed differently. I only saw your sort of outfit in their historical fiction.
[Gestures to her gold.]
Do you still wish to barter for your food?
i have no self control
He got over the disappointment surprisingly quickly; he practically has that down to an art. He's been strolling calmly through the market, taking in the setting, already sorting bits and pieces out, when a shrill and unmistakeable voice cuts through the noise. It's been a long time since he's heard Lina's screeching, but the sound still doesn't fail to raise all of his alert levels to dear-god-contain-it-before-the-fireballs-fly.
Still, there's a smirk on his face. Maybe this place won't be all that bad if Lina's around---given that she doesn't reduce it to rubble first. ]
Let it go, Lina. Gold might as well be coal here.
[ He comes up behind her and lays a hand on her shoulder, intending to untangle her from whatever argument she was getting into whether she liked it or not. ]
i know, it's adorable
[ Lina was about ready to throw a punch at whoever thought they could lay a hand on her uninvited, but she actually does a double-take when she sees his face. Oh, man! What a relief! It's not like Lina's scared or anything, but it's always better to have a
lackeyfriendlackey or two around. After all, this place is weird and freaky. And besides, maybe he's even got some money with him. She turns on her heel to face him, her face lighting up as she clasps her hands. ]Oh, man, am I glad to see you! I can't believe it! What a weird place, am I right? What's up with all the beastmen? Hey, uh, by the way, you wouldn't happen to have any local currency, would you...?
[ And her stomach lets out a loud, perfectly-timed growl. Look at that face, Zelgadis. Who would say no to that face. ]
no subject
[ He shrugs and pulls up the omni-tool someone gave him when he landed, flipping through it to page for more information; he still has the wearable from Sacrosanct (which he had switched to his other arm, for lack of anywhere else to keep it), and the technology was startlingly similar, but the wearable was basically useless here without a familiar network to connect to. ]
I just came from a place not too different from this one, but there was effectively no economy on Sacrosanct. It's different here. Look around, Lina. Almost everyone's either a thug, cutthroat merchant, or otherwise representative of what we'd generally call the criminal underbelly, except it's all out in the open. Amelia would have a conniption.
[ Though he's trying to play it cool after another reuinion with Lina following a long hiatus, he can't help but smirk as she's caving in to the desires of her insatiable stomach. Was she even going to listen to anything he has to say until she finished a feeding cycle? ]
no subject
Okay okay she's not interested in your lectures about the criminal underworld, Zel, because what you are saying makes no sense. Lina waves her hands at him, shaking her head. ]
Whoa, okay, back up, Zel! You think I don't know a bunch of mercenaries when I see them? I don't care about that. I care about you explaining all about this Sacrosanct place.
[ She needs to know where you've been, okay. Especially someplace without an economy! She has to know -- how did that work? Was it some sort of commune? Was the food there any good? ]
no subject
[ Most of the posts he finds on the extranet are junk and chatter, and there's certainly a lot more of it than he's used to seeing, so he isn't even looking at Lina while she's flailing. He sifts through them the best he can, though. ]
I think our best bet to make some money is to go do someone else's dirty work. There's a lot of fighting going on here, and a lot of credits up for grabs in this protection business. [ He gives her a wry grin; being away from their home world has changed his outlook, slightly. ] I'll probably fit right in with everyone else here.
no subject
[ They still look like beastmen to her okay. And dammit Zel you know there's nothing Lina hates more than not knowing stuff but this place is interesting enough that she'll drop it. For now. ]
This place is all right for now, but it looks like it's just full of mercenaries and bandits. Not exactly my scene for too long.
no subject
[ He switches off the omni-tool display and looks around at the varied crowd. ]
It seems there's a mercenary group called the Talons that are shorthanded these days, and are looking to hire extra firepower. I'm going to go see if I'm up to their hiring standards.
